Built in 38 years — an almost impossible medieval speed — and it still has the world's oldest working clock ticking inside.
Built between 1220 and 1258, Salisbury Cathedral is considered the finest example of Early English Gothic architecture, topped by the tallest spire in England at 123 metres. Inside, it houses one of the four surviving original copies of Magna Carta (1215) and the oldest working mechanical clock in the world (1386). The 90-minute tower tour climbs 332 vertiginous steps through the spire structure for jaw-dropping views.
